WILLIAMSPORT -- The city of Williamsport picked its biggest weekend of the year to officially open the Trade and Transit 2 Centre.
Hundreds showed up for the ribbon-cutting at the Trade and Transit 2 Centre on West Third Street in Williamsport.
The $12 million project is an expansion of the already existing River Valley Transit's bus terminal on West Third Street.
"We are going to have a first-floor expansion of our first transit building where passengers can wait," explained Skip Cochran, River Valley Transit.
"Buses will be coming straight through or right in through here. There will be some stops that will be out here once all the festivities," said Katie Tinney.
Tinney works at the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Stop, a small convenient store on the first floor of the building.
Upstairs on the second floor, the nonprofit group Uptown Music Collective has moved in, and on the third floor is the Michael Ross Event Center.
"We are going to welcome the public to use this public building for events," said Cochran.
Several local businesses pushed to have the Transit Centre open in hopes that it would bring more people downtown, especially on a weekend like this one.
"We didn't know that we were going to get this nice big patio and stage and everything out back. That was a surprise to us," Tony Ecker, Brickyard And Stonehouse Restaurant manager.
