SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY -- To celebrate Friday being National Dog Day, all approved adoptions are half price Friday , Saturday and Sunday at True Friends Animal Welfare Center in Susquehanna County.

There are about 50 dogs up for adoption at the shelter along State Route 706.

"All of a sudden we came in in the morning, there was a senior dog in the yard and a couple days later there was another dog outside and it just seems we were overwhelmed,” said Amy Uggiano, vice-president of the shelter’s board of directors.

The half priced adoptions are an effort to find pups loving homes and clear the welfare center out a bit.

"Come on in, check out what we have, meet the dogs, there's no commitment, just seeing what's available, we also have a foster program,” said Raina Upright, manager of True Friends.

In addition to getting these dogs all adopted, there's a fundraising effort here as well. Some of these kennels here are so old and rusted, some have holes in them and they even need to be closed with bungee cords.

"That building was the original building from 1980, we've mustered up the money to get the outer part done, the mechanical and physical problems that we had, we just need to replace those kennels because they do not belong in a brand new building,” said Uggiano.

The goal is to raise $60,000 dollars to pay for the new kennels.
