OLYPHANT -- If you grew up in Lackawanna County, you probably know someone who shopped at Sullum's of Olyphant.

It has been around since 1920, and over the year's it has become a landmark and an iconic shop for bridal and prom dresses.

"You got quality for your dollar. They were known from that," Joseph Germano said.

The store on Lackawanna Avenue in Olyphant closed this spring.

Inside there are still racks of colorful dresses. People who knew the owner of Sullum's say the store closed due to the owner's health.

"All these places up here are going. It's almost going to be a ghost town soon or something," Linda Yee said.

Joseph Germano of Olyphant says Sullum's was once a bustling store, especially for the ladies.

"My deceased son's wife 34 or 35 year's ago purchased her wedding gown there. It was extremely beautiful," Germano said.

"I can honestly tell you I bought my prom dress for Dunmore High School at Sullum's," Dale Schank said.

Years after shopping at Sullum's, Dale Schank went on to open her own bridal shop. She spent over a decade with her store in Daleville before opening Head to Toe Bridal in Dunmore.

Over the last 19 years, thousands of women have come to the store on East Drinker Street to find the perfect dress for prom or their wedding day.

On Saturday, Schank will also say goodbye to her business of 30 years as she looks forward to retirement.

"We've just met so many wonderful people and it has been the best experience that anybody could want. You know, everything has its birth, its rise, its peak, and decay. I think we're in our last stage," Schank said.

The alteration shop upstairs at Head to Toe Bridal will stay open through the end of 2017.

The dress portion of the store will close for good on Saturday, August 27.
