POCONO TOWNSHIP -- Yamir Andujar has lived along a stretch of Route 611 near Tannersville for more than 20 years. He and his family moved here from New York after a drug and alcohol treatment center was built near their home.

So when he found out he might be in the same situation again, he decided to take a stand.

"I hate it and I don't want it. It's that simple. It's going to bring a lot of criminals around and violence," said Yamir Andujar, Pocono Township.

Pocono Township officials say an unnamed developer hopes to bring a treatment center to the former Caesar's Brookdale Resort in Pocono Township. The 119 room resort has been closed since 2008.

Many residents, like Robert Hynes from Swiftwater, are planning to address the issue at Monday night's commissioners meeting.

"It bites! I don't know where they came up with this all of a sudden? 110 people and long term? What? Are you serious," said Hynes.

People who live in this area tell us a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center will only bring in trouble to this normally quiet neighborhood and they plan to fight to make sure it doesn't come here.

"We have 7 1/2-year-old twins. We like the area here and we came here because it is quiet and we don't want drug addicts here," said Dariusz Chowanic of Pocono Township.

His family just got back from vacation in Florida and came home to a notice about the rehabilitation center and Monday night's meeting.

They can't believe the idea is even being taken into consideration.

"We just went for a whole week. We just left the house unattended, and we didn't worry about it.  But right now with this, I think that's it," said Chowanic.

After the developer discusses the plan for the rehabilitation center, the public can comment.

The meeting at the Pocono Township Municipal Building is scheduled for 7 p.m.
