WILKES-BARRE -- A dozen teachers who were furloughed due to budget cuts in the Wilkes-Barre Area School District are now being recalled to work.

But that still leaves about two dozen other teachers still without their jobs because of the furloughs announced earlier this year.

The teachers union president, Jeff Ney, told Newswatch 16 in a statement, “Of course the Wilkes-Barre Area Education Association is thrilled that several of our members have been recalled. But we will not stop working until every one of our furloughed members have been recalled.”

At last night's meeting, the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board also discussed a personnel issue involving Brian Hampel. He has been suspended with pay while the school district investigated claims he was a "lookout" while Coughlin's former dean of student Stephen Stahl had sex with an underage student. Stahl was convicted last year.

Right now, Hampel remains suspended with pay. He could be terminated.
