BLAKESLEE -- Ten years ago, Richard Lloyd and his wife Lucy from Blakeslee visited the VA Center near Wilkes-Barre.

They noticed veterans who lived there didn't always have basic necessities accessible to them. So, they decided to change that.

"These are the guys and women that are never coming home. There are still two people we believe who live there from World War II, a lot from Vietnam and those coming in now," said Lucy Lloyd, Blakeslee.

The duo along with their motorcycle club, the "Old Dogs" pack up games, toiletries, hats, socks and more to give to people who live at the VA.

"They put their lives on the line for us. For us to go out and buy tooth brush or tooth paste, it's nothing," said Lucy Lloyd.

Those are just some of the boxes going to the VA Extended Care Center. Those who organize it tell us something as small as a toothbrush goes a long way.

"I spoke to one gentleman that was there and he's been there since Vietnam and never went home," Richard Lloyd, Blakeslee.

Richard Lloyd tells Newswatch 16 the donation is a little gesture for big heroes.

"It's like Christmas and it really is. You are being Santa for a day and we do it sometimes four, five, six times a year," said Richard Lloyd.

The Lloyds and the motorcycle club plan to drop off the donation boxes at the VA near Wilkes-Barre in the morning

A fundraiser for the next donation drop off is scheduled for the end of the month in White Haven.
