LONG POND -- It was another washout at Pocono Raceway Sunday afternoon. Officials postponed the Pennsylvania 400 because the rain would not let up.
The race was scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m., but because of the rain, it was postponed until Monday.
Newswatch 16 spoke to some NASCAR fans and many said they plan on coming back.
It wasn't the best weekend of weather for NASCAR fans at Pocono Raceway, but these diehards were holding up just fine.
Brandon Smith and his family from Hughesville were among those at the track waiting to watch the Pennsylvania 400.
"My son loves it and it's a pastime for me and my father, so we are just continuing to pass it down," Smith said.
Earlier in the day, race officials had machines on the track trying to dry it.
Fans were decked out in rain gear. Some tell us it's like last month’s Sprint Cup Series Axalta "We Paint Winners" 400 race: just a bunch of rain and waiting.
But in the end, it was another rainy race day and another postponed race.
"We are a little wet, but we ended up getting ponchos five minutes before the rain stopped,” said Katie Smith.
The Smith family gives raceway officials credit for doing all they could.
"I thought it was awesome because we brought our son and this is his first race and I’m grateful they are at least giving him a chance to experience it," Smith added.
NASCAR fans tell us they are not surprised thousands of people stuck around despite the weather because in the Fan Fair area there is a ton for people to do.
Shopping, games, and food stands make this area of the raceway fun for the whole family.
Some first timers we spoke with tell us they made the best of their time in spite of the rain.
“Oh, it's been good. We went down to pit row so that was nice to see all the cars and drivers and the crew," said Dawn Meid of Forest City.
"I was just talking to the officials and they said they were going to change the races to Mondays next year because it doesn't rain on Mondays," said Cody Brenzel of Carbondale.
Fans who plan on staying tell us the silver lining is that they get one more day in the Poconos.
The Pennsylvania 400 is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m.
All tickets for Sunday's race will still be honored on Monday.
