WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP — A 2-year-old boy was found alone in a vehicle near Wilkes-Barre Sunday afternoon suffering from heat exhaustion.

Police say someone spotted the child sweating profusely in the vehicle in a grocery store parking lot on Wilkes-Barre Township Boulevard shortly before 2 p.m.

A woman told officers the window was open a crack and she was able to get the door open and get the child out.

The woman gave the boy water and sent someone into the store to make an announcement over the store’s intercom.

Officers said the boy’s temperature was 102 degrees and he was taken to the hospital.

The mother eventually showed up after police arrived. Rosemine Chery, 28, of Wilkes-Barre was taken into custody.

The child was released to Children and Youth, and charges against the mother are pending.
