SCRANTON--- Wyoming Avenue in downtown Scranton has been converted for a weekend of basketball fun. This is the annual Lackawanna County 3 on 3 tournament.

“Getting out there practicing, having fun, it's a wonderful event. Love it. This is our second year being in it and it's a great event,” said Amy Lewis of Pittston.

The hoops event is drawing a crowd, but that's not the only thing bringing thousands to the electric city this weekend.

Arts on the Square attracts plenty of people for a full day of music, arts, crafts, food and more here on Courthouse Square.

Then, there's the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Conference at the University of Scranton.

"I would say a party of prayer. That's the best way to describe it. We're very lively, excited, full of joy basically. I think it's a very joyous celebration,” said Regine Previl of New York.

Nearly two thousand people are here from the Caribbean, Canada and beyond.

Many of these folks come every year.

"It is actually a tradition. Frankly we've been coming here for almost 10 years I guess I'd say and in doing so we've gotten more and more involved in it,” said Reggie Previl of New York.

It's not just people taking part in the events who are excited about the weekend; people at businesses downtown say they're thrilled about the hustle and bustle, too.

"It's a great thing, especially for a new place like us, we're two months old here so we are trying to grab Scranton's attention and all the people coming to Scranton for these events,” said Dominic Marianacci of Bar Pazzo.

People say whatever the draw, they're glad the city has so much to offer.

"I love it, I think it's great getting all the families out and making it a nice weekend,” said Kathy Bufalino of Shavertown.
