CARBONDALE  -- In parts of Lackawanna County, people woke to either no water or low pressure. That's because the Pennsylvania American Water Company was replacing a water valve on South Main Street in Carbondale.

Folks living in parts of Carbondale, Mayfield, and Jermyn totaling about 1,600 homes and businesses were affected.

Jennifer Neubert who lives right on South Main Street says she found out about the water outage on Facebook.

"We've kept up on our water and everything from last night stocking up the fridge so we have enough to make it through the day," said Neubert.

People on South Main Street with low water pressure can use one of the water buffaloes set up to help them stay hydrated in the heat. The Carbondale YMCA was open to help residents to shower or use the bathroom.

Mary Pantzar, a child-care director at the Carbondale "Y" says offering these services is what the YMCA is all about.

"There daily schedule they have work to go to they might have appointments they might have interviews their regular schedule would've been interrupted," says Pantzar.

Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor encouraged people living without water to use services like this to stay cool.

"Just stay cool, stay hydrated, stay indoors, don't over exert themselves today when they don't have access to water," said Taylor.

A spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania American Water says water for Carbondale, Jermyn, and Mayfield was restored in the early afternoon.
