Overnight, PennDOT launched the next phase of a bridge replacement project on Interstate 81 Northbound in the Pittston Area of Luzerne County.  Newswatch 16’s Ryan Leckey was invited behind the barriers to get a rare look at this construction and what it means for commuters.   PennDOT spokesman James May says the main reason for the 30 truckloads of concrete and activity earlier this morning is to replace a two lane bridge with a new three lane bridge.

To answer questions on why traffic is still being split on Interstate 81 North in this area, check out this video clip for a creative illustration.

Jump ahead to the 2:26 mark in the Facebook Video below to see a great illustration of how bridge lanes are replaced while always keeping two lanes of traffic flowing.  Did we mention that there is pizza and kielbasi involved?
