MIFFLINBURG -- Carol Bohn of Mifflinburg stopped by the Herr Memorial Library to sign up for a computer class. Classes like this are something new the library is offering starting this week.

"As usual, I don't use it as much as I should, or as much as I would like to. But this a great opportunity," Bohn said.

The classes are just one of the improvements that came with the library's expansion. This week is the library's grand reopening, after nine months of construction.

"I think it's great for the community and the surrounding areas. A lot of people use this library," Bohn said.

Community donations and state grant money paid for a 3,000 square foot addition. The Herr Memorial Library now has an adult lounge and a teen room.

"I'll check it out. I think it sounds pretty cool. It's pretty neat how they put that in there," Morgan Horne said.

"Whether they're here to relax or if they're here to gather together to do a homework project, it's going to be a safe area," Carol Hollister said.

One of the biggest changes brought by the expansion of the library is the elevators. Now all of the library is handicapped accessible.

"We have volunteers that would come weekly to work on projects but they can't do the steps anymore," Hollister said.

Carol Hollister worked at the Herr Memorial Library for 16 years. Now she is taking advantage of the library's new community room to teach a class on essential oils.

"Anybody will have use for what ever topic it is," Hollister said.

Some of those topics are yoga classes, and adults can learn how to brew beer! To check out the class schedule at the Herr Memorial Library, click here.
