LOCK HAVEN -- During the summer, it's not uncommon to see people enjoying a meal outdoors at their favorite restaurants.

Al fresco dining is not happening in Lock Haven, and the mayor hopes council will approve an idea to allow businesses to set up tables outside on Main Street.

Take a walk through downtown Lock Haven with Mayor William Baney. He's bound to see someone he knows.

"Everybody is friendly in my hometown,” said Mayor Baney.

Baney is proud of Lock Haven, but he also wants to improve it.

"It's an empty street right now," said Baney.

We may see an empty street, Baney sees space for something else.

"Bistro tables, just smaller tables in front of shops," said Baney.

It's just an idea right now, but soon the mayor hopes to propose an ordinance to city council that would allow restaurants and bars to set up small bistro tables outside on the sidewalk.

"We would take this size table and put them out on Main Street," Louis Anastos.

The tables would look  like the ones out back at Stella A's Bar and Grille.

"You know people driving by they see people outside dining it makes it more comfortable," said Anastos.

According to the mayor, right now there is no rule that says you can't set up a table outside of your business, so what this new ordinance would do is clarify what businesses can and cannot do in the city.

"I think outdoor seating would be super," said Sarah Grimes.

Odd Fellas, a burger place just opened a few weeks ago. While the ordinance may include a fee, Sarah Grimes sees it as a boost for business.

"It's really just something that seems it should already be there," said Grimes.

"And I don't see why they can't do it in Lock Haven. It’s crazy because it's busy. You have a hard time finding a parking spot here so why can't you have tables," said Cynthia Lanks from Antes Fort.

"When you come into a town and you see people enjoying themselves and having a good time, it's, I don't know, infectious," said Grimes.
