EXETER -- Even locked doors aren't stopping some crooks from breaking into cars in Luzerne County.

Police are investigating about a dozen car break-ins on the west side over the past week.

Police are again reminding people to make sure to lock their car doors, but a woman who lives in Exeter say thieves broke into two vehicles on her block overnight, even though the doors were locked.

Money and a gun were taken from a pickup truck belonging to Connie Cleveland's neighbor on Sullivan Street in Exeter. The truck was locked, but the thief still got in by smashing a window.

The same night, a car belonging to Cleveland's cousin was also broken into, also on Sullivan Street.

Over the past week or so, other areas nearby have also been targeted including between 3rd and 6th Streets in Wyoming.

"Typically, they take whatever they can get their hands on: cash, cell phones, anything that happens to be in the car," said Officer Paul Bowman.

Police don't yet have any leads, but they are asking people to be good neighbors, and if they see something suspicious, to call 911.

"The public in these instances are typically our greatest assets because we don't typically catch things like this, we can't be everywhere at once," Officer Bowman added.

Vehicles in Forty fort Have also been broken into recently.

Police ask if you have any information about the crimes, to call 911.
