LYCOMING COUNTY -- In Lycoming County, a man asking for donations may actually have been trying to break into homes and people in Montoursville are concerned.

Normally, Steven Dewar of Montoursville loves company. He said, “Usually, I just yell for people to come. The door was locked so he couldn't come in.”

Last week, Dewar opened his front door to see an unfamiliar face. He added, “And I said can I help you and he said yes I’m with an organization that's collecting books for the Williamsport Hospital's Children's Library."

Dewar describes the man as Hispanic, about six-feet tall with a medium build. He asked some of Dewar's neighbors to donate books too.

There's just one thing. According to Susquehanna Health, the hospital in Williamsport does not have a children's library.

"I think he was here to scope out the house in the neighborhood to see what people were home and who may not be home,” explained Dewar.

State police say Dewar was right to be suspicious of the man who came to his door they believe the man who was here in Montoursville may be linked to some burglaries that happened in Loyalsock Township where the crooks got away with jewelry and a television.

About a week ago, a homeowner on Mansel Avenue in Loyalsock Township came home to find two men upstairs. The crooks jumped out a window and got away with jewelry.

The next day, troopers say someone got away with a TV from a home on Reed Street and two people tried breaking into a home on Country Club Lane.

Nellie Whitman lives just down the road.

“[It’s] Scary. That would upset me. I would have the panic button and 911 at the same time,” said Whitman. “We are taking all precautions.”

State police hope others will do the same by locking their doors and calling police if they see anything suspicious here in Loyalsock Township.
