STROUD TOWNSHIP -- Bridge reconstruction is causing some traveling woes for people driving in a busy area of Stroud Township.

During reconstruction, traffic will be down to one lane so drivers headed south on Route 611 won't be able to turn right onto Bridge Street.

Some people we spoke to are frustrated and confused by the pattern.

Harry Leivensperger from Mountainhome got a little confused driving through this construction detour on Route 611 near the Bridge Street reconstruction site.

He isn't the only one having trouble with the new pattern.

"I am confused a little bit because I didn't know this was going on. But every place I go if it isn't a bridge under construction," said Harry Leivensperger, Mountainhome.

Work on the 60-year-old bridge started last week. Since then, it's been causing nightmares for drivers.

During the reconstruction, a single lane of traffic will be open northbound and traffic will be detoured southbound on Route 611 and Main Street.

"Yeah, you have to wait in traffic so much, it's too much. You get late to go work or whatever and she's rushing around to get her car fixed today so it's crazy," said Virginia Harrison, Tobyhanna.

The reconstruction is part of PennDOT's Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.  It's expected to take six months to complete this bridge.

The crossing was built in the 1950s and averages more than 10,000 vehicles a day.

Virginia Harrison is one of those drivers.

"I think they should do it at night when there is not as much traffic. It makes it easier," said Harrison.

Some drivers who didn't know construction was going on here tell us they were confused when they got here, even with all the signs. The traffic congestion didn't make it any better.

Shawna Ray from Tobyhanna had to bring her car to get serviced in this area and had to use the detour. She tells us she will be happy when it's over.

"You have rush hours and detours and you have to go all the way around when the shortcut is right there. I'll be glad when it's over because the road, the bridge does need to be done so I'll be glad," said Shawna Ray, Tobyhanna.
