DALLAS TOWNSHIP -- The Diocese of Scranton’s annual youth rally at Misericordia University near Dallas had a different feel than in past years.

“It kind of amazes me. I've been going to this for the past four years and every year I feel like it's getting better and bigger,” said Amy Loveless, who attended the event.

Stephen Wallo of Clarks Summit helped create the Light the Fire Youth Rally 10 years ago. Since then, it's attracted more than 400 students from all 11 counties of the Diocese of Scranton.

"It's been amazing to look back at what we've done over the 10 years,” he said.

Catholics are celebrating this year as the Year of Mercy and students inside are taking that very seriously.

“We have something throughout the campus called mercy stations, where our kids can take some time aside and actively do a piece of mercy,” Wallo said.

Like a "visit the sick" station, where students are creating messages for tissue boxes to be handed out to patients at area hospitals.

So, while the youth rally runs for just for a day, the goal is to have the impact to the community extend much longer.
