KINGSTON -- A man wanted for escaping jail in Luzerne County was arrested in Florida this week after being dragged from a pond.

Investigators say Joshua Yuhas, 31, escaped from jail in Luzerne County in 2012 when he was out on work release and failed to return to lockup at the Luzerne County minimum offender building.

Four years later, he's locked up again.

According to detectives in Martin County, Florida, detectives got a tip Yuhas was living in the area. They showed up at his house and he "attempted to run and hide by jumping in a pond. He learned the hard way that our warrants team can run faster and swim better."

Kingston detectives who first arrested Yuhas were happy with the news.

"They try to insert themselves back into a regular lifestyle, but there's always someone looking for them, whether it's the police or citizens seeing their pictures in the paper, whatever the case may be,” said Det. Tom Paratore of the Kingston Police.

Yuhas was serving time for a violent 2010 robbery.

Yuhas and another man beat a clerk inside Kingston Gas Mini Mart.

They also tried to take the cash register, causing $15,000 in damage before stealing 26 cartons of cigarettes.

"They go so far away and they think they've gotten away or gotten away from law enforcement. This just shows that cooperation between local, state, and federal agencies is a great thing,” said Paratore.

There is no word if or when Yuhas will be returned to Luzerne County.
