NORTH BRANCH TOWNSHIP -- Many are calling it a miracle that a family of four made it out alive after their Wyoming County home exploded near Mehoopany.

It happened late Tuesday night along Route 187 in North Branch Township.

Investigators are looking into whether the explosion could have been caused by propane.

People in the community are stunned at the destruction.

"It's a miracle looking at this house that anybody survived that. There's just absolutely nothing left. It's total devastation," Robert Northerner of Mehoopany Township said.

"God must have been with them. When you see that, it's hard to believe that they all made it," Pat Vermulen of Lovelton said.

The force of the explosion was so strong there is debris all the way across the street. The impact was so strong items fell off the wall at Ron Takas house. He was worried about the parents, Brent and Rachel Richter.

"They said that the mom and dad were trapped. My buddy came over here, he's a fireman. I gave him a few jacks to help get stuff off the wall that was on the mother," Takas said.

At the Tombstone Inn workers are already trying to find ways to help the family.

"I'm glad they're all safe, but it's hard knowing that they have nothing. We are taking collections at the Tombstone, donations, clothes anything you can give.

Family members say the young girl wears a size 10/12. The young boy wears 2T shirts and 24 months in pants.

Donations can be dropped off at the business which is also located along Route 187 in North Branch Township.

Investigators say debris can be found as far as 144 feet away from the home.

Mehoopany fire chief Roger Walters says he still can't believe the family all survived with non-life threatening injuries.

"I think the outcome of it came out really good considering that the people all got out of there and they're okay with just minor injuries and stuff. I think it came out real good. I think it was a good deal. Nobody was killed, so it's a good day," Walters said.

The Tombstone Inn is holding a spaghetti benefit for the family on Saturday, June 25 at 2 p.m. Donations will be accepted at the door.
