PITTSTON TOWNSHIP -- The Northeast Fair began Tuesday afternoon in Pittston Township and thousands turned out for opening night.

“Love coming back here every year, nice hometown fair, with a lot of fun activities, so discounted. Amazing value you get here. $10 to walk in the gate and go on all the rides,” said Whitney Fraleigh of Swift Concessions.

“We’re having fun, right Joe? We’re playing water games riding rides, we’re eating good food. Whoa, look at that! Look at that!” laughed Melissa Barbuti of Old Forge with her family.

People come for the entertainment, the rides and games and of course the food. More than seventy vendors are at the fair selling everything from bacon-wrapped hotdogs, pizza, candy apples and more.

“We have over a hundred different flavors of popcorn, sweet, savory, spicy, funky. We can pretty much do any color, any flavor,” said Jackie Rinish, who has Country Girl Kettle Corn of Plains Township.

“We have elk burgers, venison tenderloin, alligator bites, sausage and peppers and french fries,” said Leroy Jennings of Dallas.

The Northeast Fair is one of the first big fairs of the summer in the area and it has become a tradition for many. It’s been at the fairgrounds on Suscon Road in Pittston Township for nearly fifteen years.

Folks say over the years, the fair has become bigger and bigger.

“Leaps and bounds, except for last year when we got all the rain. Tom Clark says it’s going to be wonderful, so if it’s not, we’re going to blame him,” laughed vendor Daniel McDonough of Wright Township who has been coming to the fair since it began.

The fair is fun, but the cause is serious. The money raised goes to pay for life-saving equipment and trtraining for the Pittson Township Volunteer Fire Department.

The fairs runs through Sunday in Pittston Township.
