LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- Police in Lackawanna County say they have tracked down a suspect in a hit and run where a boy was badly hurt.
John Canfield, 13, is currently at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville with broken bones and a slight concussion.
Lillian Phillips, grandmother of Canfield, is thankful he is alive.
"He's doing good at the hospital, I talked to him this morning," said Phillips.
Canfield was struck while riding his bike home from a friend's house Friday night at the intersection of Route 6 and Route 171 in Carbondale.
"I felt real bad. I called Lilian his mother. She came right over, and she went to the accident," Phillips added.
The driver of the jeep then took off. Authorities, with the help of witnesses then traced the vehicle to Waymart in Wayne County and shortly after that, police brought the driver in for questioning. His name has not been released by authorities.
Carbondale Mayor Justin Taylor says officers are still investigating the hit and run.
"We need to build a case so it does take some time to do that. It's pretty fresh so it's a pretty serious case," said Mayor Justin Taylor. "Everybody obviously has their due process rights."
Carbondale residents say cars may come flying down this hill which is right next to Gravity Park and a skate park where children come and play.
"It scares me constantly because I go often with my granddaughter, riding a bicycle things, like that. We have to be very careful in that area," said Jim Illiff of Carbondale.
"This hill is dangerous, no lights up here besides that one light up right there. That's not even a traffic light," said Derrick James, Carbondale. "A lot of people come off that hill."
Police in Carbondale say they have enough evidence against the driver of the jeep and expect to file charges in the near future.
