FREELAND — A man who admitted to forcing a 12-year-old boy to work out as a punishment last year was sentenced to jail in Luzerne County.
Robert J. Avilez, 28, of Edwardsville pleaded guilty to aggravated assault last month.after he forced his girlfriend’s son to do a “wall sit” for more than an hour until his legs gave out.
According to investigators, back in May 2015, he forced his girlfriend’s son to do a “wall sit” for more than an hour until his legs gave out. It was allegedly because the boy took $20 from his mother.
Then when the boy collapsed, prosecutors said Avilez made him do push-ups, threw him against a wall, and choked him.
Avilez will spend up to 16 months behind bars after the sentencing in Luzerne County.
