SCRANTON -- Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton got some big news Thursday as President Obama gave his endorsement to the presumptive party nominee.

The announcement came after the president met with Clinton's opponent, Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders Thursday morning.

Democratic supporters of both candidates in Lackawanna County talked about the big day.

The Lackawanna County Young Democrats called a special meeting in Scranton Thursday to elect officers for its organization. But there’s a much bigger election that’s on most of their minds, the presidential election in November.

With the Democratic convention one month away, there are still two candidates running for the party’s ticket.

Clinton, who is now considered to be the Democratic party’s presumptive nominee, got another big boost when President Obama endorsed her.

Sanders supporters at the meeting in Lackawanna County say they’re still sticking with him.

“Hillary is the presumptive. That’s great, but he still has a lot of supporters that still want their voices being heard and he’s the champion of those voices,” said Seth Skversky of Scranton. “That’s one of the reasons why I’m a supporter of his, and I will be all the way to the convention.”

“We’re going to wait until the convention. We’re going to get as much of the progressive agenda into the Democratic platform as we can,” said Spencer Shotto of Dunmore.

Sanders did not endorse Clinton after his meeting with Obama but did say he’s looking forward to meeting and working with her in the near future.

“What I'd love to see is him help unify the party. There are a lot of people that are Bernie or bust and things like that, and in the end, Hillary Clinton is not the enemy to them,” said Drew Popish, a Hillary supporter.

“We need to get used to that idea that we’re all in this together. We’re all working together. We need to cooperate so that we can really have a better future for our country,” said Jude Mandarano, a Bernie supporter.

“When he meets with Hillary, I think they’re really going to talk, iron out some great ideas, and I think she’s going to bring in some of his campaign staff and I think he’s going to go around the country and stump for her,” said Skversky.
