WILKES-BARRE -- The new medians are in place on River Street in Wilkes-Barre. Until now, they've been black asphalt, which some called ugly and an eyesore.

One city councilman, Tony Brooks, took to his Facebook page to complain about them.

"I'm a huge supporter of Tony Brooks and I agree with him 100 percent. He's a great guy and he's trying to make Wilkes-Barre better and yeah, I agree with him 100 percent,” said Michelle Mulcahy of Wilkes-Barre.

But a PennDOT spokesman says there's no reason to complain about the project because it's not complete. In fact, as part of the plan, the black asphalt is being stamped to look like bricks. Workers began that work Monday.

“The brick I think that's definitely a good thing that they added. I know there was talk of trees being put there, which probably would have made it more nice to look at, but I think the brick will help,” said Angel Berlane Mulcahy of Wilkes-Barre.

According to PennDOT, this project should be complete in the next two to three weeks.

"I think it's pointless to complain that it's black right now. Once they get the brick cobblestone down, it'll be pretty nice. It's kind of pointless if it's not finished yet, you know what I mean? To complain about it,” said Irwin Wainwright of Kingston.
