LONG POND -- Officials ended up calling Sunday’s NASCAR race because the rain would not let up at Pocono Raceway.

Despite the bad weather, fans stayed positive.

Covered race cars and fans decked out in rain gear is not a combination you want to see during the NASCAR race finals at Pocono Raceway in Monroe County.

"We saw what the weather was going to be like so we tried to coordinate,” said John Rosenstrom from South Carolina.

The rain forced officials at Pocono Raceway to postpone the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Axalta "We Paint Winners" 400 final race.

Many fans we spoke to were disappointed, but they understand it was for the safety of the drivers.

“I don't think it's going to be that good of a turnout tomorrow, you know they want no rain at all and it should be good tomorrow but who knows if everyone will be able to get off for work,” said Peter Skolnik from Northampton.

One group had some little first timers at the race hoping to see their favorite drivers take on the "Tricky Triangle."

Unfortunately due to the weather, they may have to wait until next time.

"It's upsetting because I wanted him to see his first race,” added Skolnik.

Outside the track in the RV lots, there were tents upon tents, tarps and fans sitting under shelter. Some decided to pack up early while many others decided to stay.

Fans say the only thing you can do in this type of weather is to be prepared.

"In little bits, we started adding rooms on I guess. I mean I woke up this morning and there were two new additions or this afternoon,” said Steve Burgerhoff of Scranton. “When did I wake up, I don't know. But there were two more additions and more keeps coming in dribs and drabs."

Another group from Lackawanna County came for a show and they don't plan on leaving until they get one.

“We came prepared. We knew it was going to happen and we just acquired some new tarps, keep everything dry and it's all you can do,” added Mike Kohut of Taylor.

Fans who plan on staying tell us the silver lining is that they get one more day in the Poconos.

The final race is expected to pick up Monday at noon here in Long Pond.
