MONROE TOWNSHIP -- Now that summer vacation is in full swing for most students, many of them are spending time outside, but what happens when it rains?

We found a few places in central Pennsylvania where kids can have fun all summer long, no matter what the weather.

"I like to go to the pool and just go outside and play with my friends," said Maria Painter of Milton.

Other students agree.

"I like to go swimming!"

But unfortunately, it wasn't a pool day.  In fact, some kids got wet just walking outside.  So Carmike Cinemas near Selinsgrove was a good alternative.

"Today it was very fun actually because we went to see the Angry Birds movie," said Painter.

Taylor Bickhart and her friends saw "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."

"We just decided to come because it's raining.  We didn't have anything else to do."

Carmike Cinemas near Selinsgrove has a summer movie program for children.  Every Thursday morning during the summer, kids can come see a different movie, plus get popcorn and a drink for $4.  It's a way to beat the heat even when it's not raining.

"Since it's summer now, it's going to be really hot, so you want to go into the air conditioning," Painter added.

Another place that's always busy when it's raining is the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA in Sunbury.

"We have a pool, two gymnasiums, a fitness center, a community room where there's board games and activities for the kids to do," said executive director Wayne Stump.

The Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA offers a lot of indoor activities and kids don't need a membership.  On Monday, the children's day camp starts.

"Rain or shine, the kids are going to be active in the summer program," Stump added.

Newswatch 16 also stopped by other children-friendly places, like a bowling alley, Bounceplex, and skating rink, but many are only open nights or weekends.
