NEW YORK — The Schuylkill County man who was shot by a Secret Service agent last month after allegedly brandishing a gun near the White House is facing a potentially long prison sentence.

Jesse Olivieri was charged Friday with resisting or impeding officers or employees with a dangerous weapon. A federal offense, it carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.

The charge stems from an incident late last month at a checkpoint near the White House.

Olivieri, 31, approached the checkpoint near the White House while carrying a gun, failing to comply with orders to drop the weapon. The Department of Justice said Friday that Olivieri remains hospitalized and will appear in court at a later date.
