TOBYHANNA TOWNSHIP -- NASCAR racing is back again at the Tricky Triangle this weekend, and there's a new resort in Monroe County hoping to make a splash with racing fans.

Ahead of the big race Sunday at Pocono Raceway, NASCAR driver Danica Patrick took time to pal around with racing fans at Kalahari Resort in the Poconos with a personal meet-and-greet session.

“It's always nice to meet fans. Our sport is so driven by that, and there are so many great personalities out there,” said Patrick.

“She was actually down to earth. Very, very, very down to earth,” said Skeeta Grimes of Maryland.

“It's amazing. She's more than the nicest person I probably met. She was great with the kids, bowling with them, high-fiving them, just acting so natural with them,” said Justine Sevret of Pocono Lake.

Open just barely a year, Kalahari looking to make a big splash with racing fans by providing a place to stay and play with its indoor water park.

“You have the best of both worlds. You can have a vacation and family time while you're here, and then you can go and enjoy the race and come back and relax in the water after the race,” said Sevret.

“It's actually a really cool resort. My boys had a lot, my wife. It's a great family atmosphere. It's really awesome,” said Grimes.

“We are set up for NASCAR families to come and go to the race, and go back and have great lodging opportunities, and enjoy the water park. We do have a heliport here that you can take a quick helicopter ride right over to the track,” said Kalahari Resort General Manager Don Pleau.

Pleau said it was important for Kalahari to be actively involved in this weekend's race.

“We have Danica here today and we are also sponsoring Ryan Newman's car on Sunday in the race, so we're very excited to be a part of that, a part of the community, and a part of the NASCAR community,” said Pleau.

The newly-opened resort may have also snagged a pretty big fan.

“The water park looked like something I would want to do. All of it, baby area, the toddler area, the adult swim up bar, all of it,” said Patrick.
