HONESDALE -- There's a bloody mess inside a store after a deer came crashing through the front window on Main Street in Honesdale.

The deer smashed through the window on Sunday at Missing Pieces, an art and antique gallery leaving a big mess behind.

Katie Corey was just a few feet to the left of the store window when the wildest thing happened.

"I heard a big crash, went outside, saw a big hole, a big hole in the glass. I looked in and the deer was in there," said Corey who owns the store next door to Missing Pieces.

Corey called 911 and finally, after a two-hour wait, officers came to handle the situation.

"It's better now. It's gotten cleaned up compared to what it was. It looked like carnage, like a murder scene," said Missing Pieces' owner Sue Foster.

Aside from the front window and some shattered expensive pottery, a lot of the damage is at the back of the building where blood covered virtually everything. The owner thinks it could have been far worse if the deer wasn't so severely hurt and would have damaged more of the antiques and art work.

"Wasn't something I ever expected," said Foster. "It could have been a lot worse. Nobody got hurt and my store could have been totally destroyed."

There is a lot of cleanup to do. Blood is splattered all over the place on walls and irreplaceable paintings. The store wasn't open when the deer came in. It eventually died after causing quite the panic and mess on Main Street.

"It was scary and it was just a crazy, freak accident," said Corey. "You never would think something like that would happen."

Foster believes her insurance will cover the damage and hoped to be open by Thursday, but there's still so much blood to clean it could take longer to reopen.
