TUNKHANNOCK -- More than 300 patriotic colored balloons floated high in the sky Monday afternoon in Wyoming County at this year's balloon release. Each balloon released in Tunkhannock has a different tag with faces of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

"Each tag doesn't just represent that fallen servicemen or women. It represents their family, their friends, their brothers and sisters, and everyone they left behind here," organizer Kendra Lynn said.

The meaning behind this event is personal for Lynn. Her brother Staff Sergeant Steven Tudor was killed in Iraq in 2007.

For many at the event, they too have a friend or family member who died in the line of duty.

"I had a lot of good friends that I was discharged prior to the Vietnam War that I lost. So this is very sentimental to me," veteran Bob Schultz said.

"I have been all around the world and I have never seen more patriotic people than what I have seen today," Ty Holmes said.

Sergeant First Class Ty Holmes spoke at the balloon release at Keefer Ball field.

He couldn't believe the turnout to honor the fallen in Tunkhannock.

"We were driving down the street going, 'Where did all these people come from?' I thought that all of these people were in the parade, and then there was more. It just touched my heart we were all wiping tears away," Holmes said.

This year was the fourth balloon release in Tunkhannock. Organizers hope to continue the event in the future.
