HARRISBURG -- Governor Tom Wolf signed a measure into law Wednesday that changes the way some first-time drunk drivers are punished.

The new law applies to people convicted of driving with a blood alcohol level of .10 to .15. They could avoid having their licenses suspended by having an ignition interlock installed in their vehicles for a year.

The driver blows into the device to check if he or she has been drinking.

If there is alcohol detected on the breath, the vehicle will not start.

Pennsylvania's house and senate passed the bill unanimously earlier this year.
