LAKE WALLENPAUPACK -- It has been a pretty wet, cold spring, but summer-like weather is in the forecast just in time for Memorial Day weekend.

That means there is a rush to get ready for the start to boating season on Lake Wallenpaupack.

Sterling Marina was busy as people worked to get boats cleaned, tuned up, and hauled off to the water.

“Oh, it's very crazy. Everyone wants their boats for the weekend. We do like 600 boats and a lot of people want them by Friday,” said Nick Rizzi of Sterling Marina.

Some boats are in the water of Lake Wallenpaupack already, but a wet, cold May had few people thinking about boating.

“We had an early start on things because of the nice weather we had, but then it got cold again on us so it kind of put us back a little bit as well,” Rizzi added.

“It was nice that it was finally a day that it didn't rain for a change. Can't take it anymore. It's so depressing,” said Tim Martin of Berwyn.

Martin was putting in his boat for the summer. He’s excited that the forecast finally calls for summer-like warmth just as the typical boating season begins.

“We have a beautiful day, time to get the boat in the water, time to get ready for the big weekend.”

While there is a lot of activity getting ready for the season, for the most part, the lake is quiet now, But with the sun shining the forecast for warmth coming, this place will be really busy soon.

“This is the first time. I’m taking the boat out for the first time,” Jeff Baker of Mount Cobb said.

May may not have been so nice, but as long as summer arrives for Memorial Day weekend, he and other boaters will be happy.

“We can't wait. My girlfriend can't wait. We're all excited.”
