PALMYRA TOWNSHIP -- It has been months in the making, but a long-time resort in the Poconos has finished renovations just in time for the unofficial start of summer.

It's been years since this resort on Lake Wallenpaupack near Hawley has gone by the name Silver Birches, but as the new owners of the former Ehrhardt's will tell you: everything that's old is new again.

“It really is bringing back the feeling the Ehrhardt family had going in the ‘50s and ‘60s just with a bit of a contemporary twist,” said Silver Birches owner Justin Genzlinger.

The family-run resort has undergone major renovations in the past six months, restoring the inn to the way it looked nearly a century ago. The restaurant has a whole new look. Inside is a wooden ski boat from the ‘60s, and outside is a large deck for dining. It’s all to help draw more visitors to Lake Wallenpaupack.

“We really like this place. We stopped here because it was on the lake. We wanted to sit outside. We don’t get up here that often, and we see it’s all fixed up very nice,” said Jay Lovelass of Media.

The newly revamped Silver Birches has a lot of new features including added dock space for people who head out on the lake and want to stop by for a drink or dinner. They can park their boat and head right in.

“Oh, it’s beautiful. It’s very bright and open. We love the deck,” Mary Beth Niven of Lakeville said.

The Genzlinger family already owns Settler's Inn and Ledges Hotel in Hawley and now hopes to offer more for guests with lakefront property and a vintage look.

“The paint is literally drying as we open Memorial Day weekend, but we’re ready.”

Silver Birches reopened this weekend and is open year-round on Lake Wallenpaupack.
