HAMILTON TOWNSHIP -- Thousands of dollars in donated clothing items were stolen from donations bins in Monroe County.
This isn't the first time the bins in Hamilton Township have been hit. Now, those who donate clothes at the site are weighing in on the problem.
According to state police, the Community Aid donation bin has been broken into 12 times over the last few months with thousands of dollars in clothing and shoes stolen.
People in Monroe County cannot believe someone would break into these bins and are now considering donating elsewhere.
"I think it's a terrible thing. I mean you know, why would someone want to do something like that? It's a donation. It's for people are in need," said Dinh Daugherty.
"We live in a world where you can't trust anyone," said Carol Paulus.
The most recent break in happened in April, with more than $2,500 worth of clothing and shoes reported stolen.
Art Faber from Stroudsburg feels bad about the theft, but doesn't think much can be done.
"Stop it if you can, but how can you when it's right out here in the open? You can't police it all the time. You'd have to have someone watching the bins and I don't think that will work," Faber said.
If break-ins don't stop happening at this bin, people tell us they are going to look elsewhere to donate their clothing.
"It's a horrible thing," said Daughtery. "I mean, especially when you are trying to do something good and people are doing bad things."
"Why would you put something in a bin if it's only going to get stolen," Paulus added.
Paulus frequently donates clothes at a Community Aid bin. She tells us enough is enough and hopes the crooks give it a rest.
"Too many times, too many times, it's time to stop."
There is no word on whether or not the bins will be moved from the parking lot to a safer location.
