MILFORD TOWNSHIP -- Search efforts for a missing teenager led to the discovery of human remains in Pike County.
State police spent much of the day tucked way back inside a llama farm property near Milford after human remains were found a little after noon on Sunday.
"We're conducting a thorough investigation in this matter along with the PA State Police and we hope to bring this investigation to a conclusion," said Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin.
The body was found by a K-9 that was part of the Northeast Search and Rescue Team.
Marie McCormick lives right across the street.
"It's surprising considering how quiet it is up here. We don't hear too much," McCormick said.
No ID has been made, but it is where search crews have focused their efforts looking for Leanna Walker. The 17 year old went missing on April 18 and was last seen with her boyfriend, Sky McDonough.
Missing signs have been scattered across town for weeks as people and crews have searched throughout the Milford area and even into New Jersey.
State police said McDonough, 24, had been picked up by Milford police last month on a warrant out of New Jersey. He initially cooperated with police in the investigation of Walker's disappearance, but at one point, McDonough escaped custody. McDonough is now in Pike County Correctional Facility. McDonough's bail has been set at $250,000 as he awaits a preliminary hearing.
John Brehm ran into McDonough at a barbecue recently.
"It's really flabbergasting knowing before this kid was captured, I witnessed him myself at a barbecue in Milford. It was just crazy to actually see him there knowing this was going on," Brehm said.
While the human remains have not yet been identified, people in the Milford area are praying for the family of Leanna Walker.
"I hope this brings a closure for them if this is what happened," McCormick said.
State police have the scene secured until forensic experts investigate Monday. State police said it could take several days for the human remains to be identified.
