For Jimmy Kelleher Friday June 17th is a big deal. On that night at the Mall at Steamtown he makes his professional boxing debut part of the Thunder and Lightning card.

"I love this sport because it's the only sport where you get in and you are by yourself. You have to rely on your training, rely on all the road work that you did and you rely on yourself and the two people behind you but mostly you are in there by yourself," said Jimmy.

For the Palisades graduate boxing started when he was 9 at Larry Holmes gym in Easton. In continued with a fine amateur record of (74-10), and after high-school Jimmy joined the Marine Corps and made it all the way to the rank of Lance Corporal.

"I just traveled all over and met whoever, wherever, whenever and that's kind of in the past now I 'm looking forward to turning pro," added Jimmy.

"It's getting better. He does a lot of things he didn't know he could do and the things he does he is getting better on and we added a few things to his game and try to improve others that he already has with conditioning and running. You can never be in the best condition you can always be in better condition," said Gene Reed.

Lance Corporal Kelleher has two Marine Corps reserve training sessions coming up at fort Dix New Jersey before his pro debut June 17th, but in the meantime he will be here in Scranton training at the Irish Boxing Club.

"I think it's going to be crazy! I hope all the fans and the supporters that support me come out again," added Jimmy.

Kelleher enters this fight at 157 lbs in the junior middleweight division and is scheduled to go four rounds.
