WILKES-BARRE -- The Greek Food Festival is underway at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in the Diamond City.

"Our area is really into Greek food. I have many friends who are really excited about it,” said Nicole Denicola, a church member.

What started in 2007 as a small church fundraiser has grown very popular. Now, it's held twice a year and thousands flock for the food. Pre-orders came in a week in advance.

“I'm actually a member at the church. It reminds me of my Yaya's cooking. It's a great way to get out and try something new,” said Brittany Holly of Plains Township, who came to sample the food with her young daughter.

“It brings more people together, eating Greek food, trying something different, trying something new,” said James Carter of Wilkes-Barre, who was trying Greek food for the first time.

It may be the cuisine of an ancient civilization, but modern technology is helping the festival expand. They take credit cards at the festival now, and there's an updated website to order food, too.

"There are many online orders, so it's so nice you can be at home or work and just online order, we even do delivery,” said Denicola.

The festival runs through Saturday in Wilkes-Barre.
