WILLIAMSPORT -- Friday is prom night for students in the Williamsport Area School District and prom is a lot more than just the dress these days.

Just ask senior Chyleigh Tempesco. She said, “This is my first time being actually girly girl.”

She and a group of seniors from Williamsport Area High School were treated to a day of pampering before prom.

And it's all for free thanks to American Rescue Workers, a nonprofit organization in Williamsport.

“I was someone who would not have been able to go to prom unless I was told about this program," said senior Macenzie Malizia.

"The makeup the hair you know it's about everything has to be in its place and it's hard for a lot of girls to do that,” added senior Lybi Westover.

Jean Myers from American Rescue Workers knows prom can cost parents thousands of dollars.

"One day I said ‘you know we have all these beautiful dresses sitting in our stores let's do something with them’,” said Myers.

Jean reached out to Williamsport Area High School. She enlisted some friends and called out to local businesses for help.

Westover added, “I think it's amazing you know the things that these people are doing. They are just regular people too. They are not out of the ordinary. It's not like they are super heroes or anything. It doesn't take a lot to help people.”

"Oh, it's just awesome. To be able to help these girls out to see the smiles on their face that it just warms your heart," added Myers.

As for Chyleigh, she says she won't be wearing makeup all the time but will keep the look for now. After all, it is prom night.
