SUNBURY -- A volunteer fire company in Sunbury is taking a unique approach to fundraising. It is taking a Monopoly board and turning it into "Sunbury-opoly."
The Good Will Hose Company is one of five volunteer fire companies in Sunbury. It hosts fundraisers year round but never one like this.
"So far, it's been a big hit with our club and the local businesses," said hose company member Gary Pfleggor.
The fire company is looking for local businesses to get involved by purchasing a spot on the board. Each spot costs $225 and for that price, you get a free board and free advertising for life.
Pfleggor calls it a win-win for the fire company and the businesses.
"It's actually giving the small businesses a place to show theirs and then it's helping the fire company at the same time," Pfleggor said. "We have a $350,000 fire truck that we bought a few years ago and we're actually trying to pay it off."
Karen Teichman of Central Penn Women's Health Care in Sunbury says it was a no-brainer to get involved.
"All the businesses in the community need to support our fire department," Teichman said. "I think it's wonderful. I think it's a lot of fun. My staff and I chose this location that we'd be featured on the board. It's just nice to be involved with the community."
The Sunbury-opoly games will be sold for $25 each.
The Good Will Hose Company hopes to have them ready by October.
