MIDDLE SMITHFIELD TOWNSHIP -- There is still one more day for folks in one part of Monroe County to drop off things they don't need and help the community at the same time.
People in the Marshalls Creek area are not just recycling, but "freecycling."
Folks have another chance Saturday to drop off items they don't need any more at the Middle Smithfield Township municipal building.
There are not a lot of restrictions. As long as it's in good working order and someone can use it, folks there say they can probably find a home for it.
"People sometimes need stuff like this, so I figure passing it forward is better than throwing it away," said John Grillo.
We watched as donors made their drop-offs as part of the township's spring cleanup.
Thursday at 7 a.m., the big three-day give a way begins where residents can get whatever they see for free.
Township Supervisor Mike Dwyer enjoys making matches between people and things that need a home preventing stuff from ending up in a dumpster.
"Some of the stuff is brand new, with tags on it, that people just drop off. They brought it, I guess, for some reason," said Dwyer.
Whether you are looking for a little pink kitchen or a big beige one, you never know what you will find when you freecycle.
John Warinner and his wife are relieved to have a place to donate the swing set their grandkids outgrew.
"We are happy about the freecycle because a lot of stuff that you don't use, you could maybe have someone else use it," Warinner said.
And sometimes the stars align because John's wife is Brenda and there just happens to be a kitchen sign with her name on it.
You can drop off things until 4 p.m. Saturday. Pickup starts next Thursday at 7 a.m.
You must be a resident of Middle Smithfield Township to get the free stuff next week.
Anything left over will go to charity.
