HARFORD TOWNSHIP -- Some fifth grade students from Bradford, Susquehanna, and Wyoming Counties may be years away from getting a job, but they just got a close up look at what they could be doing in the future.

"I want to become a Cabot Oil and Gas man because you get to drive around a lot, and you get to help people out," student Nicholas Lemoncelli said.

Cabot Oil and Gas was one of 33 companies at the annual vehicular career day at the Harford Fairgrounds.

Despite the slow down the natural gas industry is going through, Cabot expects to keep a presence in Susquehanna County for the next several decades.

"Students and kids who are here today will have so many more job opportunities. Just getting them into the workforce, getting them trained and to the appropriate skill level is so important," Bill desRosiers of Cabot Oil and Gas said.

Representatives talked about skills needed to get into the natural gas industry.

That's one of the reasons why this job fair was held, to connect education with success on the job.

"Many of the workers in the natural gas industry will be retiring within the next five to 10 years. At the same time, the industry is continuing to boom," Elizabeth Janoski of Lackawanna College School of Petroleum and Natural Gas said.

"The natural gas industry, we're all thankful for it to be here because of all the good jobs, but there are many other possibilities out there," Peter Butler of the Northern Tier Industry and Education Consortium said.

Whether it's learning about the different industries or learning about different equipment, kids say they have taken away a lot of information from this year's event.

Kids also got to learn about construction jobs such as surveying and working with concrete mixers.

Jacob Kaplan, 10, enjoyed seeing what he calls the big trucks.

"I have gotten to see all kinds of trucks that I have wanted to. I have gotten to go in them and see what it's like," Kaplan said.

Organizers plan to have the vehicular career day again next year here in Susquehanna County.
