LA PLUME -- It may be finals week at Keystone College, but some college students are pulling a different kind of all-nighter. They are creating works of art.

Students were given the theme "gathering" and the rest was up to them.

"Some of the pieces we have is Michelangelo, David, The Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and the School of Athens," freshman Lindsey Lockwood said.

"So we decided on using Pokemon. First, we were just going to do art supplies, but then we were like you know what, what about Clue?" student Ethan McConnell-Drozdis said.

The draw-a-thon event is for art enthusiasts. It's also a way to raise money by encouraging donations for a new community center in Lackawanna County called The Gathering Place.

The Gathering Place will be located on South State Street in Clark Summit in a former fire hall.

The price tag on renovating the building is about $400,000. By the fall, the goal is for it to be a coffee bar and education and arts center for the community.

"The effort that they're putting into this, not only the paintings itself which is beautiful. They've organized it so well. I just feel so happy to see these kids coming out to do this. What great kids," Dori Waters of the Gathering Place said.

Lockwood is the only solo artist participating. She has been up for nearly the entire event hoping to make a difference.

"It's a really good opportunity for us as local artists to support The Gathering Place. It's really good to get ourselves out there," Lockwood said.

"We're always up, all night. Not just midterms, not just finals. All artists, all hours of the night are always dedicated to creating artwork and I think this really shows it to the community," organizer Rainy Pritchett said.

If you cannot attend the draw-a-thon at Keystone College and would like to make a donation to The Gathering Place, you can visit the GoFundMe page.
