SCRANTON -- April is child abuse prevention month. The Child Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania marked its 18th year of service Friday night in Scranton.

Hundreds gathered for the CAC’s ‘Cocktails by Moonlight' event. It was held at POSH at The Scranton Club in the city's downtown.

The center works to increase awareness about child abuse intervention and prevention.

"Tonight is a night of celebration not only of the goals that have been achieved and of the strengths that have been achieved. But also for our volunteers, our donors, and those who are making a difference in the fight against child abuse,” said Mary Ann Laporte, Child Advocacy Center.

Newswatch 16's Sharla McBride was the mistress of ceremonies at Friday’s event.

Saturday, the CAC plans to host its Moonlight Walk and Run at Nay Aug Park.

All of the money raised goes to the center in Scranton.
