KINGSTON -- Luzerne County is the latest county to put its electronic recycling program on the back burner, but Custom Computers in Kingston is helping to pick up the slack.
The store on Wyoming Avenue held a drive to collect unwanted electronics.
“It's illegal to just dump them and it's obviously gonna hurt like our environment so this is giving back to the community,” said employee Bob Chopick.
While you can recycle a lot of things for free like TVs and DVD players, it's $5 to recycle electronics like printers.
"The difference between new plastic and recycled plastic is small now with the price of oil down,” Chopick said.
That means it costs to recycle printers, but many people were happy to pay to have their unwanted printers recycled.
The drive isn't just benefiting the environment. Big Brothers Big Sisters was on hand accepting donations.
Custom Computers plans to accept unwanted electronics all year long, but there are some things they do not accept, including old CRT TVs and monitors, floor model printers and copiers, server racks, back-up batteries and overhead projectors.
The owner suggests you call them before you bring in your electronics at 570-283-8215.
