Scranton MMA is gearing up to host a free self-defense class this weekend for girls age 12 and up.  The hands-on experience is to teach females basic self-defense techniques.  But, there is a twist on the free class.  To get into the event, Scranton MMA is asking all participants to bring two household items from the list below.  Those items will be donated to the Catherine McAuley Center in Scranton.   The non-profit is dedicated to serving homeless women and children throughout Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties.

The items needed are:

  • Kitchenware
  • School Supplies
  • Bathroom Supplies
  • Bedding
  • Infant Necessities
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Personal ToiletriesThe free self-defense class will take place at 2 p.m. this Saturday, April 30, at Scranton MMA training center.  It's inside the same building as North American Warhorse at 1000 Dunham Drive in Dunmore.   For more information, call 570-851-2987.If you can't make the event but would still like to support the Catherine McAuley Center, head here to learn how to make a financial contribution or donate items on their wish list.
