COOPER TOWNSHIP -- When you're 92 years old, you don't experience many firsts anymore, but a man from the Danville area just did something very important for the first time: he voted!
Ed Polk served as an army paratrooper during World War II. He's seen a lot in his lifetime, but until this week, he's never seen a voting booth. This 92-year-old veteran from the Danville area voted for the first time Tuesday.
He said until this election, voting never interested him.
"When I'd see them on TV, they'd say what they were going to do, but to me, they never did nothing," Polk said.
Even politicians who promised to help veterans did not motivate him to go to the polls.
"They did a lot for veterans, I imagine, but I can't figure that they ever did anything for me," Polk said.
What made Polk vote now, in this year's primary election?
"I kept going on who was running, Clinton's wife and all them. I figured, Trump. He seems to be like he'd do something for the world," Polk said.
"He acts to me like he's a go-getter," Polk said.
It's the specific candidates that interest Polk. He doesn't consider himself a Democrat or a Republican.
"Who would do something good to get the world back on track again," Polk said.
So what was it like to vote for the first time, at the age of 92?
"Tired," Polk said.
Polk was never registered to vote until last month. Now that he's cast his first ballot, he plans to cast his second in November.
