LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- People all across our area are expected to hit the polls Tuesday to vote for candidates in the Pennsylvania primary election.

Three Democratic candidates are vying for the state representative seat in the 112th District in Lackawanna County.

Many of the voters we spoke to tell us it's very important for people to get out and vote, not just for the presidential candidates but also for the local elections.

"The primary here is important and I think it's very, very important because we have some candidates who shouldn't be candidates," said Pat Betty of Jessup.

"You choose the best candidate that you think is worthy of the vote, at least if you go out and vote in this primary. It's still important to get out and vote," said Joseph Wisnieski of Jermyn.

Three Democrats are competing for the spot in the 112th District: incumbent Frank Farina, former State Representative Kevin Haggerty, and Throop borough council president Thomas Lukasewicz.

Campaign signs for each candidate can be seen throughout the area.

Voters hope whoever is elected makes a change.

"I would hope that they would get some programs in motion that would take care of this area in the many, many ways they need to," said Betty.

People we spoke with tell us getting out to vote for local representatives is just as important as voting for the presidential candidates because they can have just as much of an impact.

Voters in Dunmore are hoping those elected help create jobs, lower taxes, and come to a decision on the controversial issues that face the area.

"These are the people that are working directly with you and they need to know what you want in your community," said Maryann Evanko of Dunmore.

"I think Kevin (Haggerty) was pretty good and (Rep.) Farina seemed to be pretty good, too, so it's kind of a toss-up. You can't make everyone happy," said Harold Gillern of Dunmore.

Polls open Tuesday at 7a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
