SCRANTON -- This afternoon, Ted Cruz spoke at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in front of a crowd of about 500 supporters.

Cruz stuck to the conservative talking points and promises he's made throughout his campaign, but he also made his case to republicans from our area saying he's a better choice than Donald Trump.

“Pennsylvania, the entire country is looking at Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has a choice. Pennsylvania has a megaphone. Pennsylvania has a platform to speak to the country,” said Cruz. “What path do we want the party to go down, what path do we want the country to go down.”

Ted Cruz stressed how crucial the Pennsylvania Primary is as he spoke to his supporters in Scranton.

He also stressed that he believes he's the best republican candidate to beat a democrat in the general election. In doing so, he played to his audience.

“And Hillary and Bernie, take a look at all the young people who are here,” explained Cruz.

The crowd at the Radisson Lackawanna Station drew young and old with some from Scranton and many from surrounding counties.

“We like the fact that he does represent conservative values more articulately as opposed to Trump,” said John Banks of Honesdale.

Banks brought his four sons and a friend along so the boys could get a real-life civics lesson.

“Because we get to actually see it happening rather than just reading about it in a book,” said Brock Bellinger of Honesdale.

“Adam Banks of Honesdale explained, “Because it’s a local rally so you can learn about the race and about how it works.”

After his speech, Cruz spent time greeting supporters, shaking hands. Katie Nelson, 16, of Wyoming, got a selfie with the senator. She said, “So like thrilling, just to see him here and show our support it was really, really fun.”

Nelson, not yet old enough to vote, came with her family who are excited about how much their votes for Cruz will count on Tuesday.

“This is such a rare opportunity that we have in Pennsylvania to actually have a difference and have a vote in the primary in this election cycle,” said Deborah Nelson of Wyoming. “So, I’m excited, one of my daughters will be able to vote in November so I want her to get involved too and make wise decisions when she votes, be informed.”In his speech today, Cruz cited a general election poll that has him tied with Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania should Cruz and Clinton secure their respective nominations.
