PITTSTON -- To celebrate Earth Day, a pastry shop in Luzerne County is giving back with balloons.

"It’s really exciting to make something out of these long thin pieces of latex. People go what? They think it`s incredible,” said T.J. Belt of Dallas.

Belt has been blowing, twisting and tying balloons for 15 years. But this is the first time the balloon artist has created something for earth day.

“Earth Day is a time to really remember what we need to do to keep the earth looking beautiful. And all the little things we do add up,” added Belt.

Belt is using hundreds of balloons to make an Earth Day sculpture at the Purple Squirrel Pastry on South Main Street in Pittston. She’s doing it for free, but she and the bakery owner are asking people to donate to a special cause.

"The kids obviously love it as you can hear from them squealing. And we’re also accepting donations for the Pittston Area Food Bank, to give back on earth day,” explained Cindy Pape the owner of the Purple Squirrel Pastry.

There’s a reason she chose these hundred percent rubber balloons on Earth Day.

“They can be composted actually and recycled so they`re completely earth friendly,” added Belt.

Keeping the earth clean, so kids and keep enjoying it and learn from it.

“It’s exciting for them to see creatures and plants and animals come to life,” said Stacey Szafran of Pittston.

The balloon sculpture will be on display through next week at the Purple Squirrel Pastry.
