WILLIAMSPORT -- Support for presidential candidate Ted Cruz could be seen and heard from the moment the campaign bus made its way to Williamsport.
"I am here this morning [Friday] with a word of hope and encouragement. All across Pennsylvania, all across this country, people are waking up and help is on the way," said Ted Cruz.
The republican senator from Texas spoke to about 600 people inside NuWeld Inc. on Reach Road in Williamsport. The company provides welding and other services to the natural gas industry.
Cruz touched on topics that matter to the many people in Lycoming County, jobs and energy.
"Energy is a key to unleashing our economy," said Cruz.
The natural gas industry is a big part of the economy in Lycoming County. His comments about adding more jobs and continued fracking in this area were met with loud cheers.
“If I'm elected president the federal government will have no authority whatsoever over fracking," said Cruz.
The line to get in was not as large as some first anticipated.
"Yeah I really thought that's why I said I’m going to come over here and camp out at 7 o'clock this [Friday] morning,” said Tom Henderson.
The people who did come out came to support their choice for the republican presidential nomination.
"It's exciting to see that he took some time to come to Williamsport. You know it's not a huge place on the map but here he is," said Ryan Henderson.
"He's by far much better than Trump,” said another supporter.
